Buffalo Japan have released the SHD-UHRS, a 100GB SSD (Solid State Disk) with USB2.0.
The SHD-UHRS is about the size of a credit card, making it much smaller than traditional external hard drives but still with a high storage capacity. The obvious advantage here is portablity as the device will easily fit in your pocket.
Another area where the Buffalo SHD-UHRS scores over existing external hard drives, is impact resistance due to the solid state memory. It has been impact resistance tested from a drop test at 2.5 meters.
A hybrid memory design was used for the SHD-UHRS, which includes both SLC(Single Level Cell) and MLC(Multi Level Cell) technologies. Buffalo state that the hybrid memory implementation provides both speed and reliablity.
The SHD-UHRS may fit in your pocket, but its currently also quite hard on the pocket at 100,000 Yen (US$920, €620). Cheaper, 64GB and 32GB models of the SHD-UHRS are also available.
